Seagirt Trials for Serjeants, Yeomen and Gallants
Yeomen's Tests
Each candidate must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the An
Tir Book of Combat (Missile) as it relates to the rules of engagement
and marshalling.
Candidates will be tested in the following areas:
Weapons Skills
Heavy Combat
Rapier Combat
Weapons Skills
Candidates should be competent to fight with a variety of
weapons in the following categories:
1. Bow
2. Crossbow, sling (or sling staff), siege engine
3. Javelins, axes, hammers
Candidates must choose a minimum of 4 weapons styles, ensuring at least
one from each category.
The candidate must display competency in the use of their chosen hand
weapons and bow by displaying accuracy, speed of fire, mobility and the
ability to dodge incoming fire in battles involving both heavy and light
fighters.
In armour, they must walk a specified course and at each designated
station halt and fire within 5 seconds of a given command at the
appropriate target. Each candidate will be allowed 3 attempts per
station. For bow the distances shall be 10 to 40 yards and for hand
weapons the distances will be 5 to 15 yards. Each candidate must hit 50%
of the targets.
The candidate must shoot a 40 point Royal Round. They shall have 3
attempts to do so.
Heavy Combat
Yeoman applicants should be able to demonstrate three basic
shots on a pell-pole using a standard SCA sword or pole-weapon. (The
concern here is for technique, not power). Yeoman applicants will be
able to inspect a heavy combatant's armour and weapons
Rapier Combat
Yeoman applicants shall demonstrate a competent defensive stance
and attack using a standard SCA rapier. (The concern here is for
technique, not power). Yeoman applicants will demonstrate the ability to
inspect a rapier combatant's armour and weapons.
