Seagirt Trials for Serjeants, Yeomen and Gallants
Introduction
Serjeantry has a long and rich history in the Kingdom of An Tir as a model of dedication to the martial skills and accomplishment in the courtly arts. It is a rank worth striving for and essaying these trials brings honour to all who make the attempt.
Those who achieve this rank will be expected to swear fealty to the Baroness of Seagirt and, among other things, to serve as her guard, advisors at future Serjeantry trials, and to serve as examples of chivalry, courtoisie and service both in the Barony and at large.
Below are the outlines of the day-long trials that will test the skills of the Serjeantry candidates and having read these, all of those interested are invited to participate. To indicate their interest they are to submit a calligraphed letter of intent to the Baroness by the Daffodil Tourney in March. While great scribal skill is not required, a reasonable attempt is expected.
Conduct of the Trials
The testers for the trials shall be Her Excellency, members of the Serjeantry present and others appointed by the Baroness. However, all members of the populace are encouraged to express their views concerning admission to this rank. While the Baroness seeks the guidance and input of the testers, the ultimate decision resides with her.
At the opening court of the Trials, when they come forth to introduce themselves, each candidate shall present to the Baroness a short biography of their persona. This can be, but does not have to be, written in a medieval style. It should include such information as where you live, who were your parents & siblings, whether or not you are married, whether or not you have children, what you do, who you are answerable to, who is your ruler, what education you have, where you have travelled, etc.
It is highly recommended that a candidate arrange to have someone who will look after them on the day of the trials, making sure they are fed, medications are taken, etc. A Candidate will need to be able to concentrate on the trials without having anything else to look after. It is also a good idea to have someone act as a coach before the trials, helping with heraldry, games, etc.
Candidates will be required to attempt the General tests listed below and those which apply to their chosen specialty.
