Gallants' Tests

Each candidate must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the An Tir Book of Combat (Rapier Combat) as it relates to the rules of engagement and marshalling.

Candidates will be tested in the following areas:
  • Weapons Skills
  • Archery
  • Heavy Combat


    Weapons Skills
    Candidates shall demonstrate their competence to fight with a variety of weapons in the following categories. The choices must include two from each category.

    1. Single weapon (An Tir Rapier, schlager, dagger)
    2. Single weapon and parrying device (buckler, baton, cloak, other)
    3. Double weapon (case, rapier and dagger, other)

    Candidates will be required to demonstrate an ability to instruct on the basics of all of the above weapons and combinations, and to have a firm understanding of each type of weapon and its design.

    Archery
    Candidates should show some basic familiarity with the care and usage of a bow. They must shoot a 10 point Royal Round and shall have 3 attempts to do so. Serjeant applicants will be able to inspect a light combatant's armour and weapons.

    Heavy Combat
    Gallant applicants should be able to demonstrate three basic shots on a pell-pole using a standard SCA sword or pole-weapon. (The concern here is for technique, not power). Gallant applicants will be able to inspect a heavy combatant's armour and weapons.
